Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist [M]

Nick is still getting over being dumped and his gay friends are trying to get him over the hump. He loves music. Norah is self-conscious, single, and always trying to keep her drunken friend Caroline out of trouble. She loves music. When Nick and Norah’s favourite band put on a secret show, the two go on a nightlong journey through New York’s indie rock spots on a quest to find the concert and, after a random chance encounter, end up finding each other.

This is just lovely. It has the potential to become a cult romantic comedy just like Garden State or Eagle vs Shark. It’s absolutely lovely!

Nick is still getting over being dumped and his gay friends are tyring to get him over the hump. He loves music. Norah is self-conscious, single, and always trying to keep her friend Caroline from getting drunk and getting into trouble. She loves music. When Nick and Norah’s favourite band put on a secret show, the two embark upon a nightlong journey through New York’s indie rock hot spots on a quest to find the secret concert. But, after a random chance encounter, they end up finding each other.

Like American Graffiti, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist is a wonderful story of discovery and misdemeanours that all take place in the span of one night.
What I, as any tragically single 21 year-old female, particularly love about this movie is the fact that it is a real true-love-at-first-sight romantic comedy, but it also appeals directly to a certain audience. The central characters are modern teenagers, but they are actually into good music like David Bowie, Hendrix, The Cure, The Rolling Stones; in other words, real music, not this crappy over-synthesised garbage that can be heard on every young person’s iPod across the globe. Here we have characters that are brought together by music, real music, and I know for a fact that there are people like these heroes out there, so it’s great to see a love-at-first-sight romance that happens to real characters that we can relate to.
This movie also cleverly treaded that fine line between tween movie and teen movie. The movie can be rather brutally true, particularly when it depicts Caroline’s drunkenness, but I would like to say that it’s good to see a movie telling it like it is! The harsh reality!
Starring Michael Cera, Kat Dennings, who has to be the one of the most gorgeous natural beauties around, Aaron Yoo, Rafi Gavron, Ari Graynor, Alexis Dziena, and Jay Baruchel, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist is a wonderful indie romantic comedy that’s filled with great music, memorable characters, wonderful performances, comedy, drama, and romance. Potentially a cult classic, this movie is one that I really love.
