Love & Other Impossible Pursuits [M]

Emilia and her husband Jack are struggling to keep their lives together after the death of their 3-day old daughter, Isabel. But Emilia is finding it harder to endure. Amidst coping with the loss of her daughter, Emilia is desperately trying to establish a relationship with her stepson, Will, as well as contend with other parents’ snide glances and whisperings about her being a home-wrecker. For poor Emilia, love is the most impossible pursuit.

So here I am, red-eyed and wet-faced, clutching a box of tissues to me. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so hard as I did during this movie. A simple story with really powerful performances makes Love and Other Impossible Pursuits the most deeply moving and stirring film that I have seen to date. It was absolutely beautiful!

Emilia and her husband Jack are struggling to keep their lives together after the death of their 3-day old daughter, Isabel. But Emilia is finding it harder to endure. Amidst coping with her daughter’s death, Emilia is also desperately trying to establish a relationship with her stepson, William, as well as contending with snide glances and whisperings from other parents about her being a home-wrecker. This, combined with her own home dramas makes love the ultimate impossible pursuit for poor Emilia.

The awesome power of this film came solely in the performances from the actors. Particularly Natalie Portman. The story itself is very simple and down-to earth, and I have to say that the soundtrack was spot-on in bringing tears to the eyes during the more melancholy, silent, and reflective scenes.
What I particularly marvelled at in this film that was everyone was, at the same time, some sort of hero and some sort of villain. I mean, that all depends on whether you can see things from more than one character’s perspective, but what I saw in this movie was a dramatic story that was every characters’ fault and yet, not their fault. It’s really more a feeling than anything that can be put into words. That’s how powerful this movie was.
Natalie Portman stars as Emilia and she was absolutely mesmerising. She delivered a performance that was trying, selfish, cold, confused, distant, and just all around amazing! I’m totally right to have Natalie as one of my top five favourite actresses of all time!
Starring Scott Cohen, Charlie Tahan, Lisa Kudrow, Lauren Ambrose, and Anthony Rapp, Love and Other Impossible Pursuits was a really moving and memorable film filled with touching romance, and amazing drama. I loved it from start to finish! It was a really amazing actors’ movie! I’m utterly stunned!
