Wild Target [M]

Victor Maynard is a middle-aged solitary assassin, one of the best and most expensive there is. Being raised a stoic, emotionless killer, Victor’s professional routine is interrupted when he finds himself attracted to one of this targets. Unable to kill her, he soon finds himself employed as her bodyguard and, with more assassins out to get her, this job is going to prove harder than his original one.

This was a really clever, subtle comedy. It was based on a silly, yet stable story and the performances from the actors just made it a fun and rollicking car chase. The British can do comedy! Wild Target, I personally felt, achieved what films such as Due Date and The Killers failed epically to do. It took a simple and silly story, and made it into a funny and refreshing comedy. As I’ve already mentioned, the story itself is rather simple and silly, but it was the weird mix of the cast that made the film entertaining.
Bill Nighy stars as Victor Maynard. I love Bill Nighy! He’s just wonderful in anything he does. From Love Actually to Blow Dry to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One, he just plays every role with a certain precision and charm. Wild Target was no exception. Bill delivered a performance that was charming, confused, frustrated, and very funny. Loved him!
Rupert Grint stars as Tony, a sort of sidekick for Victor, and he was hysterical. Without a doubt the funniest thing in the film, he delivered a wonderful performance that was frightened, natural, panicked, and just all around brilliant. He really is a talented actor.
Emily Blunt stars as Rose, Victor’s flame and intended target, and she gave a performance that was arrogant, charming, glamorous, and funny. You go girl.
Starring Martin Freeman, Rupert Everett, and Eileen Atkins, Wild Target was a silly, but very funny comedy that was filled with assassins, car chases, action, romance, murders, comedy, and a scene from Psycho. It really was a good movie.
