Sherlock Holmes [M]

"When the dead walk, the living will fill these coffins." Hangings, murders, resurrections. Some cases should just be left alone.

Here we go, we're into movies with a bit more action and mystery then my previous reviews. I felt that this was the perfect movie to put me in a good mood this morning before going to work, and it's the perfect movie to make me even happier by writing about.
So here we go...

This version of Sherlock Holmes is a wonderful movie with a perfect balance of action, romance, suspense, and humour. Set in London, of course, the film begins with Sherlock Holmes and his companion Doc Watson thwarting an attempted murder through satanic possession. The master behind the crime, Lord Blackwood, is taken into custody. Believing it to be their last case together, Watson attends Blackwood's hanging and pronounces him dead. However things take a sharp turn the groundskeeper reports that he witnessed Lord Blackwood rise from the grave the day after his burial. It is now up to Holmes to solve this mystery before any more murders are committed.
I have to say that is was quite refreshing to watch a detective movie that was a combination of the scientific and the supernatural (without giving too much away). There aren't many films around at the moment that do that. Good move Guy Ritchie!

Robert Downey Jr. plays Sherlock Holmes, and I have to say that he was brilliant. Slightly arrogant, somewhat dramatic and sometimes a tad childish, he plays a Holmes full of quick witty remarks and even quicker punches. A true delight to watch on screen.
Jude Law plays Watson and he's just great. With a mean right cross and sometimes and even meaner attitude towards his companion, Jude is spontaneous, witty, and keeps the quick to keep the story moving forward.
Adding Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler and Mark Strong as Lord Blackwood into the fold, Sherlock Holmes is a shining gem of a movie with a quick-witted script, an awesome soundtrack, and the right amount of action and romance to make it suitable for anyone (over 15 of course).
Seriously everyone, this is a move that I could watch again and again and again until I know the script (and don't think I won't). Definitely one to sit down and watch!
