I'm going to come clean and admit that I do love Disney movies. The classic stories, the music, the colours, and the characters are always brilliant.
So this morning before work, I put on Disney's newest classic, The Princess And The Frog.
Set in New Orleans, The Princess And The Frog is wonderfully refreshing as it is one of the rare Disney movies that does not revolve primarily around princes and princesses.
Tiana is the film's heroine. A beautiful waitress who spends most of her life working 2 jobs to raise the money to buy and set up her own restaurant, which was her and her father's dream. But Tiana's structured and work-oriented life takes a turn at a fancy masquerade ball when a prince who has been turned into a frog by a voodoo man, mistakes Tiana for a real princess and begs her to kiss him. Unfortunately for both parties, the effect of the kiss was not what they expected.
Of course the film is a musical, as is practically all Disney animated classics, and I do have to say that I believe it is the best Disney soundtrack around. The songs dapple in gospel and jazz and even a little bluegrass and there are a few references to jazz greats such as Louis Armstrong. The score is done by Randy Newman, who provided us with music in Toy Story and James And The Giant Peach. So you know music-wise, you're in good hands with this movie.
Filled with the voice talents of Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Keith David, Jennifer Cody, Jim Cumings, Jennifer Lewis, John Goodman, and Oprah Winfrey, The Princess And The Frog is a fun-filled family movie with a happy ending... of course.
