Mean Girls [M]

High school can be pretty scary for anyone, but for Cady it’s going to be downright traumatic. After being homeschooled for most of her life, Cady suddenly finds herself in the mad and dangerous world of high school where adults don’t trust her and the students give her a wide birth. She desperately tries to make friends, but how can you make friends in a world where no one can be trusted?

I love this movie. I don’t usually warm to teen comedies, but Mean Girls was too clever and too cunning to not like.

Cady Heron is sixteen years old and, until now, has spent her life in Africa with her parents being homeschooled. When her mum finishes her tenure at college, Cady suddenly finds herself far away from the world of animals and in the world of high school. After a horrible first day, a pair of students in her class take pity on her and ask her to be friends with them. They then teach Cady the ropes of the school and in particular, to avoid talking to the Plastics, the high school equivalent of royalty. But then Cady catches the eye of Regina George, leader of the Plastics, and is asked to sit with them. Upon learning this, Cady’s friend Janis asks her to spy on Regina and then let the school know how evil she really is. And as Cady hangs out more and more with the Plastics, she learns that in high school, no one can be trusted.

Based on the book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman, Mean Girls a clever and cunning teen comedy about the clashes between the stereotypical groups in high school. The entire film is a merry-go-round of back-stabs, bitching, snitching, and sabotage, all mixed in with a little taste of finding your feet. It has a very clever script and is filled with characters that you love to hate.
Starring Lindsey Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacy Chabert, Amanda Seyfreid, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Jonathan Bennett and Tim Meadows, Mean Girls is a wonderful teen comedy about stereotypes, finding your feet, and people with two faces. A real chick flick.
