Star Trek: Into Darkness [M]

After a half-success-half-failure of a mission, morale and personal relationships on board the Enterprise are strained. But the crew’s spats are put on hold when a secret Star Fleet organisation is blown up in London and a single rogue, waging a one-man war against Star Fleet, attacks a conference. Upon a mission to hunt down the perpetrator, Captain Kirk and his crew are thrust headlong into a war of another kind as a series of events reveals that both Star Fleet’s Admiral Marcus and the war criminal known as John Harrison are harbouring secrets that threaten Earth.

Ok guys, it’s important to remember that I’m not a diehard trekkie, so keep that in mind when you read this coming review. I know there are hell-bound fans of the original series and movies that greatly dispute the very existence of these new movies, so to them I apologise for my saying that this movie was AWESOME! Sorry. I greatly enjoyed the first movie and I have to admit that I was tentative about seeing the new one because, as seems to be the pattern with modern sequels, there was a great threat of the original character chemistry and power of the script and performances being overwhelmed by the special effects. I was pleasantly surprised and very appreciative that this was not the case with Into Darkness. This movie was every bit as good as its predecessor, even more so because all the characters are better established now, paving the way for more emotional journeys and such. I really loved this movie and would definitely go to the cinemas to see it again!

I first want to draw attention to and award an accolade to Zachary Quinto who plays Spock. Playing a character that doesn’t physically convey human emotion, I can only imagine, must be a very hard task and Quinto did it so very well in the first movie. He greatly established himself as Spock and that’s why in this movie, it’s all the more emotive when he indulges in scenes of higher emotional drama. He made me tear up during one particularly emotional scene and I really fell in love with him.
I loved this movie because it was still wonderfully balanced between drama, action, sci-fi effects, and comedy. The script was excellent, blended with comedy, romance, and memorable character banter, and the special effects where damned awesome (in the true and original meaning of the word). The entire thing was fantastic
Starring Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Alice Eve, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Peter Weller, Bruce Greenwood, and Leonard Nimoy, Star Trek: Into Darkness was an awesome movie that was packed with drama, comedy, kick-arse special effects, action, and memorable performances. I absolutely LOVED it, it’s definitely earned a place in the collection.
