Bernie [M]

In the tiny Texas town of Carthage lives Bernie Tiede the town’s most beloved resident. An assistant funeral director and friend to everyone, Bernie’s extroverted, gentle, approachable, and overwhelmingly generous nature make him the town’s darling. But then he befriends Marjorie Nugent, a cantankerous, hateful, and sour rich widow and the two soon become inseparable, the best of friends. Soon Marjorie becomes increasingly dependent and possessive of Bernie and his extroverted personality becomes dangerously stifled… right to the point where the world’s nicest guy is pushed over the edge.

David and Margaret from The Movie Show claimed that this was Jack Black’s best work since School of Rock. And I have to say that I agree with them wholeheartedly. Obviously you cannot compare Bernie to School of Rock because they are a complete 180 degrees away from one another, but Jack’s performance in this movie is every bit as memorable and loveable and immortal as his performance in School of Rock, if not more so. I absolutely LOVED Bernie!

Based on a heart warming and remarkable true story, Bernie is a film that I think lots of audiences will relate to. For one thing, these are characters that everyone can relate to. Everyone has had to work with someone who is evil and has made his or her life hell, therefore the character of Bernie is one that audiences immediately root for and fall in love with, idolise if you will.
Jaggedly sewn together and made up of numerous interviews with the townspeople, this movie has a very lovely sense of community and warmth of humanity, which is something that, in this day and age, is increasingly hard to find. I really loved the film’s editing for that reason.
But at the end of the day, the hero of it all was Jack Black. Jack delivered a most memorable and hugely loveable performance as Bernie. He was sincere, gentle, fun, approachable, you could literally feel his love and warmth coming from the screen! Playing the role of real person is always a challenge and Jack played the role of Bernie with otherworldly kindness and sincerity, but at the same time was really real! I think everyone has met or known someone whu has that ability to make the sun shine brighter and warmer. Jack deserves a massive round of applause and a salute for his performance in this film! YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL MAN!
Starring Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey, Brady Coleman, and Richard Robichaux, Bernie is a beautiful film that’s filled with friendship, drama, real life, comedy, and the most loveable man you’d ever want to meet! I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THIS MOVIE!
