When Dewy Finn is kicked out of his band, desperation kicks in. Having no money to pay his share of the rent and finding it impossible to leave rock n’ roll behind, he takes a job as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Upon discovering that he has a class filled with 10 year-old musical geniuses, with a vision to win Battle of the Bands and win some money in mind, Dewy turns his class of sophisticated and well-mannered students into a rocking back, teaching them the valuable lesson of stickin’ it to the man!
This has to be the greatest film that Jack Black has ever done! Dead set! It’s an original story, has memorable characters, has an effing wicked soundtrack, and has some deeper and motivational messages thrown in. To put it bluntly, THIS MOVIE ROCKS!
When Dewy Finn is kicked out of his band, desperation takes hold. Having no money to pay his share of the rent and finding it impossible to leave rock n’ roll behind, he takes a job as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Upon arriving at the school, he discovers that his class is filled with 10 year-old musical geniuses and, with a vision of winning Battle of the Bands in mind, he turns this group of well-mannered and sophisticated kids into a hard rocking band. Armed with shredding guitar solos and hardcore rock songs, Dewey’s School of Rock is out to stick it to the man!
As much as I love movies, I freaking love music, rock music n particular. So obviously, I simply must draw attention to this film’s soundtrack, which is without a doubt too cool for school. Featuring and sampling songs from epic bands and artists like AC/DC, Cream, Stevie Nicks, The Doors, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and David Bowie, as well as a few tracks from Jack Black and his School of Rock, this film would be lost without its rocking music. Downright awesome!
Jack Black stars as Dewey and seriously, there could be no other choice. Granted the film was actually written for him, but that’s beside the point. The point is that he turned in a wonderfully rocking and funny performance. One that I could watch again and again and again. I salute you.
Starring Adam Pascal, Sarah Silverman, Mike White, and Joan Cusack, School of Rock is a great family film filled with rock music, genuine talent, posers and wannabes, and defiance. I said it before and I’ll say it again. THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!!
We roll tonight to the guitar bite and for those about to rock, I salute you.
