What time is it? Summertime! And the kids at East High are
planning some serious fun, but at the same time they need to get jobs. With
graduation creeping ever forward, everyone’s looking to their future, none more
so than Troy for whom opportunity really comes knocking at Lava Springs where
he and his schoolmates are doing their summer jobs. But as soon as he starts to
take his chances, Troy begins to change and Gabriella, Chad, and all their East
High mates don’t like what he’s changing into.
Well, it’s better than the first one. High School Musical 2 sees more
“drama”, more emotional struggles that are actually fitting for the young adult
scene, the music is a little more fitting, as are the high-powered dance
sequences. Everything is this movie grew and became better suited to the High
School in High School Musical.

You still cannot take any of this seriously. Even the
more dramatic scenes where there is legitimate tension are ruined by
over-drummed and overemphasised musical numbers.
It has to be said though, that
the performances from everyone involved were much better. Those who overacted
toned down a little, aside from Ashley Tisdale of course, and then those who
were wooden and uncertain in the first movie became a little more limber and
pliable. Everyone and everything grew naturally, giving this movie a much
stronger sense of reality that its predecessor.
Starring Zac Efron, Vanessa
Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Gabreel, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Bart
Johnson, Jessica Tuck, Chris Warren Jr., Olesya Rulin, and Mark L. Taylor, High School Musical 2 was better than
the first one, but still overdone and cheesy as a supreme. Filled with changes,
growth, work, opportunity, romance, and more music and high-powered dance
sequences, it was an improvement; not a huge one but one nonetheless.
