Shrek 2 [PG]

For Shrek and Fiona, it seems that they have found their happily ever after. But after their perfect honeymoon, they are invited by Fiona’s parents to a royal ball in celebration of their nuptials. Reluctant to go, Shrek’s fears about not being accepted by Fiona’s parents are confirmed as soon as they get there and, to make matters worse, Fiona’s fairy godmother and her son Prince Charming are plotting to get Shrek out of the picture and change the end of the story.

With the new Puss In Boots movie coming out soon, I just could not pass up the chance to sit down and reacquaint myself with, not only Puss in Boots (who is so absolutely adorable you just melt when you see him), but the entire romantic fairytale comedy that is Shrek 2. This is one of the rare occasions where I believe that the sequel is even better than the first! Filled with fables, action, comedy, romance, magic spells, and everything else from a fairytale, I just adore this movie!

For Shrek and Fiona, it seems that they have found their happily ever after. But after their perfect honeymoon, they are invited by Fiona’s parents to the Kingdom of Far Far Away to attend a royal ball in celebration of their nuptials. Reluctant to go, Shrek’s fears about not being accepted by Fiona’s parents are confirmed as soon as they arrive and, to make matters worse, Fiona’s fairy godmother and her son Prince Charming are plotting to remove Shrek from the picture and change the ending of the story.

Armed with the fabulous animation, wonderful voice talents, memorable characters, and just brilliant screenplay and script, Shrek 2 makes for the perfect family movie.
Essentially it is very similar to the first Shrek; a wonderfully witty and clever fractured fairytale, but what I particularly love about this film is the modern references that sneak into play, making it a lot easier for more modern audiences to relate to. We recognise subtle and more mature themes come into the mix such as drug jokes, alcohol and bar gags, Captain Hook is somewhat mirroring Tom Waits, cross dressing, sexual innuendos, and even a sample from Blazing Saddles
As well as Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Gingy, Pinocchio, the Three Blind Mice, and the Wolf, we are introduced to new faces from various fables including Puss In Boots, the Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming, the Frog Prince, and many more.
Featuring the brilliant voice talents of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas, John Cleese, Julie Andrews, Rupert Everett, and Jennifer Saunders, Shrek 2 is a fabulous movie packed with action, magic, romance, comedy, drama, memorable characters, adventure, and everything in between. I absolutely adore it and think it’s even better than the first one!
