Marty McFly is your average teenager. He’s young, he plays the guitar, and he’s got a girl. He also has a best friend who’s an eccentric scientist named “Doc” Emmett Brown and when the Doc builds a time machine out a DeLorean, Marty finds himself in the middle of an epic adventure. After accidentally travelling back to 1955, the DeLorean breaks down and Marty becomes stranded in an unfamiliar decade. Whilst tracking down the Doc of the past, Marty bumps into his parents and unintentionally changes the course of the future. When his mum develops the hots for him rather than his father, Marty is faced with a monumental problem and with the DeLorean almost up and running, can he get his folks together before it’s too late?
This is the ultimate science fiction family movie! Earning its place in The Book, it’s filled to the brim with comedy, suspense, romance, memorable characters, and time travel.
Marty McFly is your average teenager. He’s young, he plays the guitar, and he’s got a girl. He also has a best friend who is an eccentric scientist named “Doc” Emmett Brown and when the Doc builds a time machine out of a DeLorean, Marty soon finds himself in the middle of an epic adventure. When Marty witness the Doc getting shot by a group of angry Libyans he narrowly escapes by outrunning them in the time machine. However, as soon as he hits 88 miles per hour he is transported back in time and he literally crashes in 1955. With the DeLorean badly damaged from the crash, Marty becomes stranded in an unfamiliar decade and there’s only one man in the world who can help him. As he begins to track down the Doc Brown of the past, he bumps into his parents and unintentionally changes the course of the future. Marty now faces a monumental problem as his mother develops the hots for him rather than his father and with his only window of opportunity to return home fast approaching, can Marty get his folks together before it’s too late?
This was a really original idea and it has to be one of the most perfectly balanced films ever! Being the first movie in a trilogy, its purpose is to set the scene and introduce the audience to the characters and it achieves that goal completely without being overly complex to follow and overflowing with action and suspense. What I particularly love about this film is that the characters take the time to verbalise the complex areas of the plot. This is really good as the topic of time travel can get really confusing and not all audience members are as bright as each other. Like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, these films have no expiration date.
Michael J. Fox stars as Marty McFly and he was absolute genius! He delivered a performance that was comedic, charming, panicky, and completely down to earth. I fell in love with him in this movie.
Christopher Lloyd stars as Doc Emmett Brown and, in all honesty, nobody else could have done this role. He was eccentric, funny, intelligent, and a little bit mad, all in the name of science of course. He was an absolute joy to watch from start to finish.
Starring Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson, Back to the Future is the perfect science fiction family movie filled with action, romance, suspense, and comedy. Its wonderfully original story and its cleverly constructed screenplay make it one of my all time favourite films!
