The Boat That Rocked [M]

Swing back to the 60s with the pirate DJs on The Boat That Rocked. They rocked. They rolled. And then they sank.

"The only time I feel alright is by your side. Girl, I want to be with you all of the time. All day and all of the night. All day and all of the night." - The Kinks.
LOVE that song! That's where we're at now everyone. The music, the hair, the outfits... the 60s! We're stepping back in time and taking a ride on The Boat That Rocked.

It's 1966, the greatest era for British rock & roll. There are so many awesome songs that must be heard. However, BBC Radio only plays less than 45 minutes of pop music a day. WHAT!? Never fear. Fortunately pirate radio stations anchored in the North Sea play rock and pop music all day and all of the night. One such radio station is Radio Rock. A crew of ramshackle DJs, all quirky characters, see to it that all those rockers on land get to hear the latest and greatest pop and rock songs. On board arrives 18 year old Carl who is sent to the boat by his mother in the hope that living on the boat for a while might get him on the straight and narrow path.... "Spectacular mistake."

From writer/director Richard Curtis who brought us other such classics as Four Weddings And A Funeral and Love Actually, The Boat That Rocked is British humour at its best. With a stella cast loaded with names such as Nick Frost, Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rhys Ifans, Jack Davenport, Kenneth Branagh, Rhys Darby, Gemma Arterton, Talulah Riley, and Emma Thompson, This is one of those movies that grows on you and becomes funnier every time you watch it.
Not to mention the soundtrack! Oh, for the love of 60s music. This has to be one of the best films soundtracks. I went out and bought a copy straight away after watching the film in the cinemas. Featuring songs from epic names such as The Who, The Kinks, The Turtles, Duffy, Cream, Easybeats, Jimmy Henrix, Procol Harum, Jeff Beck, Dusty Springfield, The Hollies, The Beach Boys, Cat Stevens, The Moody Blues, The Supremes, David Bowie and more. The list goes on and on. You'd have to watch this flick just for the music! Very feel-good, brings-back-memories, puts-a-big-smile-on-the-face type movie.
Seriously, between the clever writing, the quirky misadventures, the hilarious cast, and the awesome soundtrack, The Boat That Rocked will have you laughing, crying, and dancing time and time again.
