The Adventures of Milo and Otis [G]

On a sunny farm in the countryside live a curious ginger kitten named Milo and a stout and serious pug puppy named Otis. The two meet and become best friends when Milo ventures too far from his mother and siblings and comes across Otis, the oddest-looking cat he’s ever seen. Together they have many adventures around the farm, but their biggest one comes when, whilst hiding from Otis in a box by the dock, Milo is swept away from home by the river and Otis begins a brave and determined quest to find him. Separated in the great unknown, the two embark upon the biggest adventure of their lives, but their friendship and determination to find each other and go back home never gets lost.

I used to love, love, this film when I was little. That was a great time back then wasn’t it? When you could watch a movie and think it was amazing when in actual fact it was really short and not all that interesting at all. Watching The Adventures of Milo and Otis now as an adult is actually kind of embarrassing and all the way through, I was asking myself “what did I ever see in this film?”

To be fair, this actually isn’t all that bad but it is a movie that really stops being good at around the age of 6. The film is entirely made up of animal actors and animal footage, thus successfully achieving its goal of both entertaining the kids and educating them. The characters in this move are adorable animals, so cute and loveable, and then to watch them grow and give birth; there’s the education. As long as the child doesn’t assume that that’s where they came from, it does quite well. It’s a bit like Bambi but not quite as good.
Narrated by Dudley Moore and filled with cute animals, suspense, drama, and friendship, The Adventures of Milo and Otis is a cute little movie, but one that I thought a lot more of when I was a child. It’s one of those movies that just doesn’t really stand the test of time… despite that it’s branded in the “Forever Young” collection.
