Claire Spencer’s life is perfect: she has a brilliant and
handsome husband, Dr. Norman Spencer, and a beautiful daughter, Caitlin. But
Claire’s perfect world begins to slowly crumble when Caitlin moves away for
college and Claire begins to hear whispers and voices around the empty house.
At first Claire agrees with her husband, that these are just delusions caused
by possibly by stress, but then more strange happenings occur around the house
and Claire is convinced that she’s not delusional when she sees a ghostly image
of a young woman in the bathtub. While no one believes her, Claire becomes
determined to find the reason for the woman’s haunting her and soon begins to
uncover a terrifying case of murder… involving her husband.
Whoo what a
spine-tingler! This is a great supernatural thriller absolutely loaded with
twists and turns and non-stop mounting suspense! It’s fantastic!

First round of applause has to go to
whoever created this fantastic story! It’s an old fashioned ghost story of
revenge from beyond the grave, but given new life, so to speak, by the added
extra of a psychoanalytical thriller. The story is fantastic because it is a ghost story, but from time to time
you’re brought back to earth with a jolt because something has been said or
done that hints that everything happening could be just in Claire’s head. This
plot misdirection is not as extreme and shocking as American Psycho or Black Swan,
but on the right track. Then we have an absolutely
fabulous and unforseen twist of the plot that just throws you for a loop.
Great story!
Michelle Pfeiffer deserves the next round of applause for her
brilliant performance. I’ve always loved Michelle and here she gives a
wonderful performance filled with genuine wifely love, maternity, and in those
scenes where the it’s the slow movement of the character and the soft,
spine-tingling music starts to swell, you can see the cogs working in her mind
and face as the mounting terror and panic begins to take over. A role like hers
must always be a challenge because it’s so easy to overdo being scared.
Michelle did it brilliantly!
Starring Harrison Ford, Miranda Otto, Katherine
Towne, James Remar, and Diana Scarwid, What
Lies Beneath is a classic spine-tingling thriller filled with romance, murder,
drama, and the supernatural. It’s absolutely fantastic!
