Mission Impossible 2 [M]

Whilst vacationing, Ethan Hunt is tracked down by his boss and given a new impossible mission: to recover a stolen virus and stop renegade agent Sean Ambrose from unleashing it upon an unsuspecting world. Teaming up with beautiful thief Nyah Hall as well as old pal Luther, Hunt is soon traversing the globe, chasing down an adversary who is just as good at the spy game as he is.

EXCELLENT! SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE! Mission Impossible was a fine film as spy films come, I suppose, but when you think Mission Impossible it demands a large amount of adrenaline and all sorts of action and deceptive drama. The first movie, directed by Brian De Palma just lacked that crucial element and, for me, it gave off a strong vibe of flimsy establishment, it sort of knew what it was trying to achieve, but failed in pushing the movie to is utmost potential. Mission Impossible 2, this time directed by Jon Woo, was so much better! It just goes to show what power the directors really have. Everything, absolutely everything about this film was infinitely better! It was absolutely awesome: the 2 hours flew by in a great rush of fire and adrenaline. Oh man, it was fucking brilliant! I loved it!

I take back what I said about Tom Cruise in the first movie. I think the fault lies with the director. Jon Woo seemed to bring the action-y best out of everyone in this movie, establishing Tom Cruise as an action star and not a mere lead. Cruise is (almost literally) on fire in this movie and he also sizzles with a somewhat annoying but attractive, egotistical sexual charm… maybe it was the hair.
Without a doubt though, the real stars of the show were the people on the stunt and special effects  team. The action sequences: in particular the motorbike chase and the final climactic fistfight were absolutely superb. Filmed with stunning fast-paced jaggedness as well as beautiful slow motion, those scenes were absolutely mesmerising. I was glued to the screen, I could not look away.
Starring Tom Cruise, Thandie Newton, Dougray Scott, Ving Rhames, Richard Roxburgh, John Polson, Brendan Gleeson, and Anthony Hopkins, Mission Impossible 2 is a fantastic adrenaline rush of a film that’s packed with action, drama, romance, comedy (it was a much better script this time around too I thought), stunning special effects, knockout stunts, and was just better in every way than its predecessor. FUCKING FANTASTIC!
