When the CIA gets hacked into, every known hacker in the
country is suspect. But no sooner have the authorities begin tracking down the
hackers when, one by one, they begin to get assassinated. Matthew Farrell is
next on the list and it falls on Detective John McLane to pick him up and take
him the CIA. But, whilst on the job, an assassination attempt is made on
Matthew, and before they know it, both he and John are in the middle of a
terrorism plot with a new breed of terrorists: ones that threaten to launch a
massive computer attack and shut down the entire country.
Easily the most
rollicking and action-packed of the Die
Hard series, Die Hard 4.0 is a
fan-fucking-tastic movie with action, violence, explosions, bloodshed, and
suspense coming at you from all directions. The first movie is now and will
always remain my favourite, but this is pretty damned awesome!

It’s the most exciting but it’s also the most modern Die Hard and I found it particularly
interesting and also entertaining to watch Bruce Willis (with no hair now)
reprising this infamous role for a fourth time and really relishing in the fact
that he has never bothered to keep updated with technology. This was a joke
that was actually made in Die Hard 2
and I found that the constant coming back to it brought a layer of subtle and
sometimes unnoticed humour to the film. Sure the script was filled with its
usual macho one-liners and funny freak-outs from the more panicked characters,
but it was the whole technological scenario that brought humour to the movie as
well as bringing forth some avid points of interest such as humanity’s complete
dependence on technology. Chaplin was hinting at this back in the 20s with Modern Times! Technology is the most
dominant thing on the planet: people may have created it and for a long time,
controlled it, but when it breaks down, more often than not, so do we. Food for
thought people, food for thought.
Starring Bruce Willis, Justin Long, Timothy
Olyphant, Maggie Q, Cliff Curtis, Jonathan Sadowski, Mary Elizabeth Winstead,
and Kevin Smith, Die Hard 4.0 was
easily the most rollicking and adrenaline-pinching of the series. Filled with
action, comedy, violence, suspense, and technology, I thoroughly enjoyed it,
finding it hugely entertaining and positively mind-blowing. The special effects
in all the action sequences, especially the car chases and the explosions were
just mind-blowing! Awesome!
