To Catch a Thief [G]

Living along the French Riviera, retired jewel thief, John Robie, is pulled back into the crime game when a copycat thief pulls a string of robberies using all Robie’s tricks and techniques. Determined to catch the thief and prove his innocence, Robie plans a master plan using the stunning heiress Francie Stevens’ and mother’s jewels as bait.

Possibly one of Hitchcock’s most un-Hitchcock-esque films of all time, To Catch a Thief is a wonderful movie packed with danger, intrigue, comedy, and romance. A bit more mainstream and not as thrilling or suspenseful as most of the classics attributed to Hitchcock’s name, nevertheless, it’s a really wonderful film that entices and captivates its audiences from beginning to end.

First, I must give special applause to the team in the costume design and creation department. The outfits in this film were stunning, absolutely stunning! They were glamorous, teasing, cheeky, shimmering, handsome, and altogether dazzling.
Now we must turn our attention to the wonderful performance from the stunning Grace Kelly; she really is a beauty isn’t she? Beginning the movie as quiet and timid in the company of her unrelenting mother, she quickly became this sassy and fiery heroine armed with razor sharp wit and banter, and Grace’s delivery and general carriage were just beautiful; enticing and enchanting and then quite forceful and deadly when she got going on a quest to have the last word. She was absolutely gorgeous.
I also have to draw attention to the sublime and breathtaking aerial cinematography. We get to see a great deal of the beautiful Moroccan scenery through these majestic and wonderful, sweeping aerial shots and camera angles. The aerial camera work was just amazing!
Starring Carey Grant, Jesse Royce Landis, John Williams, Charles Vanel, and Brigitte Auber, To Catch a Thief is a wonderful classic that I enjoyed very much. Filled with drama, murder, theft, stunning costumes and jewellery, danger, intrigue, comedy, and romance, it’s a wonderful film in that classic Hitchcock-authorities-are-after-the-wrong-man style. It’s a great story with a lot to offer its audience.
