Out of work director Mel Funn has come up with the perfect way to save Big Studios from the clutches of the evil conglomerate Engulf and Devour, that plans to take over the studio: make the first silent movie in over forty years. But, with big stars not wanting to work on a silent film in this day and age, and Engulf and Devour out to destroy the silent movie, saving the studio and making the movie is going to be harder than Funn ever imagined.
From Mel Brookes comes this wonderful comedy that pays homage to the lost art of silent movies. The overacted performances, the atmospheric music, and the wonderful visual gags, Silent Movie covers absolutely everything that made the silent films great, bringing a modern comedic twist to the film as well.

Without a doubt, my favourite scene in the film is where the heroic trio are tyring to get the famous mime Marcel Marceau to star in their silent film. After getting Marcel on the phone, the man famous for being silent delivers the only verbal line of the movie: “no!” it’s wonderful irony and the funniest moment in the film.
The power of the movie comes in the forms of slapstick comedy routines, and brilliant sound effect gags. I can’t really say it in words, you’ve have to watch the film to understand the brilliance of it all.
With dazzlingly overacted performances by Mel Brookes, Marty Feldman, Dom DeLuise, Sid Caesar, Harold Gould, Ron Carey, Bernadette Peters, and starring Burt Reynolds, James Caan, Liza Minnelli, Anne Bancroft, Marcel Marceau, and Paul Newman as themselves, Silent Movie was a wonderfully clever film filled with slapstick humour, sound effect gags, romance, memorable characters and no dialogue. It was an absolute delight from start to finish!
