Desperately Seeking Susan [M]

Bored and unsatisfied housewife, Roberta, fills her days by reading the personal ads, following a special relationship between Jim and Susan, a woman who lives the free-spirited life that Roberta can only dream of. But this all changes when Roberta shows up at Jim and Susan’s pre-arranged rendezvous and her life is turned upside down thanks to a jacket, a bump on the head, a bout of amnesia, and a case of mistaken identity.

I mainly hired this out to have a look at the fantastic 80s fashions. I had no idea what the film was about and was really surprised when a classic plot twister was placed upon my screen. Desperately Seeking Susan was a great original comedy filled with great outfits, amnesia, mistaken identities, and continuous twists of the plot. It was fantastic.

Bored and unsatisfied housewife, Roberta, fills her days by reading the personal ads, following a special relationship between Jim and Susan, a woman who lives the free-spirited life that Roberta can only dream about. But that all changes when Roberta shoes up at Jim and Susan’s pre-arranged rendezvous and her life is turned upside down and inside out thanks to a jacket, a bump on the head, a bout of amnesia, a pair of missing earrings, and a case of mistaken identity.

As I mentioned before, the main reason I hired this movie was to marvel at the fantastic 80s fashions. The costumes in this movie were sensational, particularly those worn by Madonna. After watching all these films from the 80s, I have come to the conclusion that I should have been a teenager in the 80s. As of now, I am bringing the fashions back!
Desperately Seeking Susan was an original film in terms of story. It was a classic, off-centre film that dealt with cases of mistaken identity and the ripple effect: how all these big and sometimes terrible things can happen due to one tiny mistake. It’s a classic ingredient in comedy.
Starring Rosanna Arquette, Aidan Quinn, and Madonna as Susan, Desperately Seeking Susan was a great little film filled with comedy, fashion, amnesia, mistaken identity, magic tricks, and great music. It was a delight from start to finish.
