The Princess Diaries [G]

As a bright but shy and gawky teenager, Mia’s goal in life is to be invisible. But this wish is threatened when her long lost grandmother comes to town and informs her that she is a real-life princess and only heir to the throne of Genovia. Reluctantly, Mia accepts to attend princess lessons until the Grand Genovia Ball in three weeks, then she will make the biggest decision of her life.

Based on the novel by Meg Cabot, The Princess Diaries is a wonderful family film that is charming, funny, and heart-warming from beginning to end. I absolutely love it.

As a bright but shy and gawky teenager, Mia’s goal in life is to be invisible…and she’s good at it. But this wish is threatened when a long lost grandmother comes to town and informs Mia that she is a real-life princess and only heir to the throne of Genovia. Reluctantly, Mia accepts to attend princess lessons until the night of the Grand Genovia Ball in three weeks, then she will make the biggest decision of her life. And so begins an amazing transformation as Mia soon goes from being invisible to being on the cover of every newspaper. Coping with media hounding, jealous classmates, and high heels, can Mia prove to everyone, including herself, that’s she’s more than she appears?

This is a wonderful movie about realising one’s potential and discovering that you have the ability to surprise yourself. With its original story and charming and witty script, it’s a film that appeals to all ages.
Anne Hathaway stars as Mia and she’s just brilliant. She plays the shy-in-public-but-feisty-at-home role incredibly well and she’s really gorgeous from start to finish. Loved her.
Julie Andrews stars as Mia’s grandmother and she was lovely. Delivering a performance that was polished, refined, stern, but at the same time caring and affectionate, she was just gorgeous and the contrast between her and Anne worked perfectly, creating great family entertainment.
Starring Hector Elizondo, Heather Matarazzo, Caroline Goodall, Robert Schwartzman, Erik von Detten, Sandra Oh, Kathleen Marshall, and Mandy Moore, The Princess Diaries is a charming and heart-warming family film that’s filled with friendship, high heels, makeovers, lessons, glamour, romance, and comedy. It’s a lovely little one that always puts me in a good mood.
