Kate & Leopold [PG]

When Stuart discovers a crack in time, he takes a quick trip back to the 19th century and walks with the giants of invention including Leopold, a Duke who invented the elevator. Unfortunately, Leopold mistakes Stuart as a common thief and follows him, falling through the crack in time and arriving in the 21st century. Now it’s imperative that Stuart gets Leopold home, but he suffers an accident and whilst he’s in the hospital, Leopold grows rather attached to Stuart’s ex-girlfriend who lives upstairs. With the time space continuum unbalanced, will Leopold stay or leave?

This is the second Hugh Jackman film that I watched after developing a love for him through watching Van Helsing. What I love about this film is that it’s a science fiction romantic comedy and there aren’t many of them around. With its supernatural story, its memorable characters, and its fun and light-hearted script, Kate & Leopold is a lovely little romantic comedy that I am very pleased to have in my collection.

When Stuart discovers a crack in time, He takes a trip back to the 19th century and walks with the giants of invention including Leopold, Duke of Albany and inventor of the elevator. Unfortunately, Leopold mistakes Stuart for a common thief and follows him, falling through the crack in time and becoming stranded in the 21st century. Now it’s imperative that Stuart gets Leopold home, but a serious accident befalls him and whilst he’s in the hospital, Leopold becomes rather attached to Stuart’s feisty ex-girlfriend, Kate, who lives upstairs. As the pair develop a strong romance, it becomes harder for Leopold to choose whether to stay with Kate or go back to his time. And with the time space continuum greatly upset by Leopold’s leap forward, a decision has to made and quick.

This is the perfect afternoon movie. It’s very light, has an engaging story, and stars Hugh Jackman. What more can you want?
Hugh Jackman plays Leopold and he was absolutely gorgeous! He was charming, graceful, refined, polite, passionate, chivalrous, and a complete gentleman. He lights up the screen and it’s impossible to take your eyes off him.
Meg Ryan stars as Kate and she was great. Playing a single woman who has just passed her peak and is now married to her job cannot be very easy and Meg played the role with frustration, sarcasm, and biting and feisty comedy. She was great.
Also starring Liev Schreiber, and Breckin Meyer, Kate & Leopold is a wonderful romantic comedy filled with time jumps, romance, education, comedy, and just a little bit of drama. It’s the perfect easy and light movie for an afternoon screening.
