The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy [PG]

The incredible story of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the galaxy begins very simply… it begins with a man. His name is Arthur Dent and, just moments before the universe’s most nasty creatures destroy his home planet; his friend Ford, an alien in human form, whisks him into outer space. Teaming up with the President of the Galaxy, the love of his life, and a manically depressed robot, Arthur soon finds himself on a quest to find the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

Based on the novel by Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a fantastically whacky and laugh-out-loud space-age comedy that will have you laughing, crying, gasping, and hanging onto your seat.

The incredible story of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy begins very simply…it begins with a man. An earthman to be precise, whose name is Arthur Dent. Just moments before his home planet is destroyed by the nastiest creatures in the universe to make way for a hyperspace expressway, Arthur is whisked into outer space by his friend Ford, an alien in human form. Teaming up with the two-headed, egocentric President of the galaxy, the beautiful and feisty love of his life, and a manically depressed robot called Marvin, Arthur soon finds himself on a quest to find the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

This movie makes me laugh every time. It’s filled with clever, and sometimes random and sporadic comedy that just keeps you in a constant fit of the giggles. The way it’s filmed is very much like the way the book is written, with little narrations and information points dotted throughout the adventure. It’s very explanatory, but also very funny.
The story is not all that much, but what keeps the audience entertained is the memorable characters that dominate the screen. Each is more outrageous or eccentric than the last and it’s practically impossible to pick a favourite.
Not the to mention the cast. Practically EVERYONE is in this movie! Starring Martin Freeman, Zooey Deschanel, Mos Def, Sam Rockwell, Bill Nighy, Warwick Davies, Anna Chancellor, John Malkovich, and featuring the voice talents of Helen Mirren, Bill Bailey, Alan Rickman, and Stephen Fry as the narrator, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a wonderfully whacky comedy filled with spaceships, aliens, tea, mice, sperm whales, and God knows what else. It covers all manner of genres and is an essential in any comedy buff’s collection.
