The Emperor's New Groove [G]

Emperor Kuzco is one the most selfish monarchs in history, but that all changes when he fires his adviser, Yzma and, in a rage she plans to poison him. But when her henchman Kronk accidentally mixes up the poisons, causing Kuzco to turn into a llama, things go from bad to worse when Kuzco becomes stranded in the middle of an unknown peasant village. Bringing in the help of Pacha, to take him back to the castle, Kuzco embarks on a journey filled with change; not only for his body, but his attitude as well.

Another wonderful animated classic from Walt Disney, The Emperor’s New Groove is your more modern Disney family film. Filled with slapstick comedy, memorable characters, and no musical numbers, it’s a fun laugh-out-loud family film.

Emperor Kuzco is one of the most selfish monarchs in history. But that all changes when he fires his adviser, Yzma and, in a rage she plans to poison him and bring an end his rule. But when her henchman, Kronk, mixes up the poisons, accidentally turning the emperor into a llama, Kuzco is mortified to find himself stranded in the middle of an unknown peasant village. Roping in a local kind-hearted peasant named Pacha to help him back to the castle, Kuzco embarks upon a journey that will bring change not only to his body, but his attitude as well.

One of the rare Disney animated films that are not a musicals, The Emperor’s New Groove earns its stripes through its original story and comedy. The script is very funny and the vocal performances from the actors really bring it to life. All the comedy is very abrupt and fast-paced, causing the film to move along rather speedily.
Much of the humour is achieved through slapstick comedy and a couple of little writers’ tricks that are scattered throughout the piece; tricks such as narration, freeze film, film within a film, exaggerated chase scenes, sarcasm, irony, and famous quotes from other movies, the biggest one being from The Wizard of Oz.
Featuring the voice talents of David Spade, John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, Patrick Warburton, Wendie Malick, and Tom Jones, The Emperor’s New Groove is a wonderful laugh-out-loud family movie filled with dangerous animals, action, adventure, friendship, arrogance, and a constant stream of comedy. Love it.
