Gamble and Hoitz are two misfit detectives who have been sentenced to life behind the desk. Hating each other with a passion, the two have had to live in the shadow of two of the most badass cops on the force. But when these notorious cops go down for the count, opportunity knocks for Gamble and Hoitz. Accidentally stumbling onto one of the biggest crimes in years, can Gamble and Hoitz step up their game to solve the case without destroying NYC and killing each other in the process?
I just missed this at the cinemas and I was so annoyed, because it looked like so much fun. So when it finally came into work, my family and I were looking forward to a Saturday night of rollicking action and fun. And that’s exactly what we got.

This was a delightfully hysterical film, but I did feel that I was sitting in a car with a learner driver. The story moved forwards in really sharp and abrupt spurts and then stopped for a bit so that audience could catch up. And it was like this for the whole thing. Leap forward, stop, leap forward, stop. There was nothing smooth or tentative about it at all. It was very in-your-face and steam-rolling along. But it was good fun when you got used to the way it moved.
Will Ferrell stars as Detective Gamble and he was great. It was almost like he was revisiting his character in Stranger Than Fiction, only Gamble was a bit more self-confident and not as tentative. Will was very entertaining to watch in this film.
Mark Wahlberg stars as Detective Hoitz and I have to say that he stole the show. He was loud, aggressive, and just turned in a hugely hysterical performance. It’s wonderful to see actors go for a genre of movie that they are not commonly associated with and watching Mark on the screen in this hugely comedic role was a real eye-opener. The film was about him! Rock on Mark!
Starring Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Steve Coogan, Samuel L. Jackson, and Dwayne Johnson, The Other Guys was a rollicking action-packed comedy filled with “hot ladies”, skirmishes, explosions, fire, pimps, and the occasional hiccup, it was a freight train ride to hell and back and it will have you laughing all the way.
