After three years of extensive rehabilitation, the evil fur-worshipping Cruella De Vil is granted parole and allowed back into society. Meanwhile her probation officer, Chloe, owner of two Dalmatians and a new litter of puppies, harbours strong concerns that Cruella really hasn’t changed and when her puppies are stolen, her fears are confirmed.
Nowhere near as good as the first one, but still a fun little film that can be enjoyed by the whole family, 102 Dalmatians is a cute little movie filled with unlikely heroes, sinister villains, cute couples, and the odd misfit.
After three years of extensive rehabilitation, Cruella De Vil is granted parole and allowed back into society. Out to show the world that she is a now a doggy-loving do-gooder, the only person she’s not fooling is her probation officer, Chloe, owner of two Dalmatians and a new litter of puppies. While Cruella looks like she is helping the homeless dogs of London, in reality she is planning revenge on all of puppy-kind and when Chloe’s Dalmatian puppies are stolen, her fears that Cruella has never changed are confirmed. Joining forces with Kevin, owner of a shelter for homeless dogs, Chloe races to Paris to rescue her puppies before it’s too late.
Glenn Close is back playing the very stylish, but wholly unhinged Cruella De Vil. Delivering a performance that was quite in keeping with the Cruella of the first movie, I did feel that some scenes were a little overacted and a bit too emphasised. Her outfits also, were a little bit over the top this time around. But all in all, she is Cruella De Vil.
Starring Ioan Gruffudd, Alice Evans, Tim McInnerny, Gerard Depardieu, and Eric Idle, 102 Dalmatians was a fun little sequel that’s ideal for an afternoon laugh. Some of it did get a little silly and over the top, but ultimately it was a fun little movie that the family can enjoy.
