Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone [PG]

Harry Potter is no ordinary boy. He's a wizard. But he's no ordinary wizard. He's the "boy who lived." Join Harry as he discovers, through the wonders of magic, who he is and why he's so famous in the magical world.

There is nothing I like better than going back to these movies. Harry Potter has to be the most perfect set of films as they incorporate so many different genres. There's action, magic, romance, comedy, horror, and they are films that you can watch again and again, finding something new each time.
The Philosopher's Stone is the first movie in the Harry Potter series.

Harry Potter is a mistreated boy who lives with his uncle, aunt and cousin. Poor Harry has spent his life eating scraps from the table, wearing his cousin's hand-me-down clothes and sleeping in a cupboard under the stairs. But all this is about to change. On Harry's 11th birthday, a stranger named Hagrid comes and tells him that he is not the person he thinks he is.
"You're a wizard Harry."
"I'm a what?"
With the truth out at last, Harry then learns that he has been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he can study and take his place in the magical world where he belongs. Upon entering this world, Harry quickly learns things about his past that were kept from him by his aunt and uncle.
"Not all wizards are good. Some of them go bad. A few years ago there was one wizard who went as bad as you can go and his name was Voldemort. It was dark times Harry, dark times. Voldemort started to gather some followers. Brought them over to the dark side. Anyone that stood up to him ended up dead. Your parents fought against him. But nobody lived once he decided to kill them. Nobody, not one. Except you. Some say he died. Codswollap in my opinion. I reckon he's out there still too tired to carry one. But one thing's absolutely certain. Something about you stumped him that night. That's why you're famous. That's why everybody knows your name. You're the Boy Who Lived."
As Harry enters the world of Hogwarts School, strange things begin to happen and Harry is sure that there are people out to get him.

The characters from the beloved Harry Potter books, writtn by J K Rowling, are brought magically to life in this film. Daniel Radcliffe is the Boy Who Lived himself and I honestly don't think anyone else could have done this role. Even watching the later films, years down the track, and then coming back to this film, I think "Dan Radcliffe is Harry Potter. Always has been. Always will be."
Backing up young Dan is a whole parade of wonderful actors:
Rupert Grint
Emma Watson
Maggie Smith
Richard Harris
Robbie Coltrane
Richard Griffiths
Fiona Shaw
Tom Felton
Warwick Davies
Ian Hart
John Hurt
David Bradley
John Cleese
Julie Walters
Alan Rickman
Zoe Wanamaker
The Philosopher's Stone is filled with suspense, comedy, action and everything in between. The perfect family film that you can never get tired of.
