Be Cool [M]

Following on from Get Shorty, join Chili Palmer in his venture to change jobs... again. When facing angry gangsters and the even angrier Russian Mafia, you have to Be Cool.

This is one of our family default movies. If ever we're in doubt about what to watch on a saturday night at home, and that tends to happen quite often what with so many movies to choose from, Be Cool somehow always ends up being the movie of unanimous choice.
It's actually been a while since I sat down and watched this movie. I was going through the selection in my room when my eyes fell on this cover and I figured may as well. So glad that I did. I had almost forgotten how much I love this flick.

A follow-on to Get Shorty, in Be Cool we catch up with smooth operator Chili Palmer, a shylock turned movie producer, who is now starting to get bored with the movie business. The film begins with Chili having a drink with his mate Tommy, a music producer who wants to have a movie made about him. However, Tommy's dream is somewhat short-lived (you have to watch the movie to find out why). Upon meeting a young talented beauty named Linda Moon, Chili decides that he wants to be in the music business and he plans to elevate Linda straight to the top where she belongs. However, once in the music-biz mix, Chili realises that his plan is easier said than done.

John Travolta revisits his role of Chili Palmer and he's gorgeous. I absolutely love John Travolta. In this movie he is smooth, calm, quick-witted, stylish, and has an amazing amount of know-how. When it comes to Chili Palmer, it's not what you know, but who you know. Well, what I know is that John is just lovely in this flick and I would watch him over and over and over again, if I didn't have to get up in the morning and go to work.
Teaming up with John is Uma Thurman as Tommy's wife and Chili's music partner. She is a real beauty. A little sultry, a little snaky, but in general very bubbly and very sexy. Playing a feisty producer with an Aerosmith tattoo, rock on!, Uma really makes her presence known on screen.
Alongside John and Uma is a whole parade of awesome names such as Christina Milian, Vince Vaughn, Dwayne Johnson, Harvey Keitel, Robert Pastorelli, Cedric the Entertainer, Andre Benjamin, Danny DeVito and Steven Tyler. Not to mention the amount of cameos!
Jam-packed with gangster rappers, the Russian mafia, police investigations, irony and a Bring It On monologue, Be Cool is a hand-clapping comedy that really packs a punch. Hugely entertaining!
